Becoming an Extrovert Easily

I’ve often wondered how one goes about becoming an extrovert, or if it’s even possible to change from an introvert to an extrovert. And the reason I wonder this is that I’m very much an introvert.

I can work all day at home and not get lonely. That being said, I do enjoy the company of my friends when I get a chance to chat with them. But it’s really hard to make new friends – and to network at a job fair or party – forget it!

I have to say that I’m better than I used to be – I’ve possibly worked my way up to a shy extrovert – if there is even such a thing! My husband is a complete extrovert so over the years I’ve watched him as he merely walks up to people and starts to talk to them. I’ve always marveled at how complete strangers will end up telling him their entire life’s story as they chat away.

He does well at work too because he’s not afraid to stand up for himself. He doesn’t (really) care if people like him or not; he speaks his mind and if he gets in trouble, he deals with it then. But he rarely gets in trouble and in fact is known as the best problem solver in his department! And while I also rarely get in trouble, I’m known as an excellent worker, but only to those who know me well.

But I’ve been practicing like I said. It’s possibly a little easier for me because I have someone to watch and emulate; but I used to doubt that Id ever be the life of the party – you know, that person people gather around, listen to and laugh with. They even seek them out when they get to the place. Everyone wants their attention and when they speak – people listen!

Becoming an extrovert requires that you address some fears and figure out why you are such an introvert – or maybe a shy extrovert ;-).

Easy Self Help to Improve Your Brain

When spring approaches it’s almost impossible to think about doing self help to improve your brain, and in the summer, it’s even harder. But you don’t really need to stop; you just need to meld a few things into your daily routine. It should be painless and easy to do.

For starters, maybe you like to take short walks in the summer, like I do. It’s good exercise and gets me the fresh air I need. And, while I do have time for a walk, I don’t seem to have time to relax and fit in my subliminal tapes; or at least, I didn’t think I had time.

But the other night when I was doing my Brain Entrainment CD instead of watching boring TV, I thought of something. With brain entrainment you should be lying down and relaxing because of the complex things that are going on in the background of the tapes at a variety of levels. But I could probably do a weight loss hypnosis tape while I walked, or even a subliminal self help tape to improve my brain (and so could you!).

I’ve had the book about the 5 Tibetan rites forever! I used to do them all the time and I felt GREAT! It’s the best combination of meditation and exercise available. I’ve always been told I don’t look as old as I am, and I credit some of that to the 5 Tibetan Rites.

Aromatherapy Can Relax — But Which Scent Helps Memory?

Old Fashioned vs. New Meditation Techniques — Which Works Best?

As I lay in bed this morning mediating the “old fashioned” way, I begin to think about all the self help options we have with today’s technology to help our brain focus. Now, by old fashioned meditation techniques I just mean that once I woke up, I just laid there for a few moments to see what came to mind.

Sometimes I use my first five minutes to help me remember my dreams, and sometimes I just try not to think of anything and see what comes to mind first. There’s also another meditation technique that I like where you ask a simple question of yourself and then try NOT to think of answer. For example, I might ask myself (or my subconscious as it is) what I should start out doing today that will be the most successful. Then I just stare at the ceiling and wait for the answer.

Once I get it, I’m off and running for a successful, productive day. When you use meditation techniques to get your day started off right, you will be on the right track all day!

Some people find it a little harder to come up with answers by staring at the ceiling, and for those, I would recommend using some kind of brain quieting help – like brain entrainment (Brain Ev is my favorite), or subliminal message CD’s focusing on what problem you’re trying to solve (i.e. weight loss, panic attacks, win friends and influence people, etc). These take a little longer since they are usually about a half hour long, so you’ll have to make the effort to wake up a little earlier in the morning. I also find them successful if I use them at night before I go to bed.

The two things to keep in mind when you use meditation techniques are:

  1. What do you want to find out? If you’re looking for an answer to a specific question, you’ll want to ask yourself that question before you start any sort of meditation technique. (You can find out the secret to life, or just where you put that darn cell phone!) If you’re hoping to solve a problem, you need to state the problem, and then ask for a resolution.
  2. You can also use self help meditation techniques to just relax. Once you’re relaxed, something helpful will be revealed to you. It’s best to use brainwave entrainment, or relaxing music, to help you get your mind off of the day’s stress. Once your brain gets past the stress, it can help you figure out what’s wrong, and what the solution is.

    The reason I’m so passionate about brainwave entrainment, vs. the old fashioned way is that it actually works on your brain at a variety of different levels. It has the ability to “re-arrange” things, so to speak, to help you become not only more relaxed, but smarter as you move through everyday functions – at work and at play. I can’t really explain this, I just know it works.

There isn’t really one best answer to the self help question about meditation techniques. It depends on how much time you have, and how willing you are to make a few changes. You can spend about a half an hour a day doing something that’s good for you, with results that will last a lifetime; or use the old fashioned meditation technique and just calm your mind in the morning to get a head start on the day. Either way, you will be better off than if you didn’t do anything.

How to Celebrate Your Birthday in Style – and Not Go Broke

Today is my Birthday – YEAAAA! I’ve never taken my Birthday off work, but since I work at home now, I decided to change my routine a little and really make myself feel special. Every year I celebrate my birthday by doing little things throughout the day that make me feel special – at least for part of the day; it just seems like the right thing to do.

I’ll celebrate with friends tonight, but for today, I’m celebrating in style, without spending a bunch of money. These things are easy to do, so if you need to feel special on your birthday, here’s how to make the most of it.

First thing in the morning, get your coffee and have it in the hot tub, or a nice hot bath. There’s nothing like relaxing first thing in the morning to relieve the stress of the day before. I usually don’t sit in the hot tub in the morning, but it was really GREAT today!

Then I thought, since I had sort of started a “spa day” why not continue with that theme. So in the shower, I used my favorite anti aging products and gave my face a good face scrub. Then I did a Mario Badescu whitening mask treatment followed with a very nice Mario face cream. Wow! Now granted these are things I already had around the house, but I never take time to use them (and for anti aging products, Mario Badescu products are still my favorite). I’m feeling really special now, what next?

I’m definitely going to treat myself to lunch. I can’t decide if it’s going to be fast food or a restaurant – since we’re going out to a nice restaurant tonight. By the way, the waterfront restaurant we go to has an “Early Bird” special, so we’ll get a four course meal for about $20 each! Can’t beat that for a low cost Birthday Celebration. Just look around, restaurants are always sending specials in the mail! Why pay full price if you don’t have to?

Tonight, I’m planning to continue my spa day. I didn’t want to use too many products at once this morning, so I’m going to give myself a full facial while watching my favorite TV program tonight. The facial takes about 45 minutes so it’ll be more time for me to relax. Oh, and yesterday I did sneak in a half price massage special at my favorite Spa.

I could have gone to a spa and spent the entire day doing what I did at home, but that would have cost me about $350. The way I treated myself special cost under $100.00, and I didn’t have to go anywhere, and I had time to brag about my birthday to you all! 🙂

Now, if you think these are all “girly” things to do you’re totally wrong! Everyone can use a little special treatment on their Birthday, and I’ll tell you what – between the hot tub, facial, and total relaxation, I feel like I’ve been reborn! Maybe I’ll have to do it again tomorrow!

Remember Your Dreams Easily With 1 Simple Trick

Some people think they never dream, others know they dream all the time because they have developed ways to remember dreams. But if you think you don’t dream, think again, because we all dream; it’s what helps us figure out the problems of the day.

Unfortunately, the area of the brain where dreams exist has no memory attached to it. That’s why it’s hard to remember your dreams – they aren’t put into your memory. Therefore, if you’re not consciously aware that you did indeed have a dream and try to remember it, you will not get benefit from the dream.

Dreams are important because they bypass your conscious mind. The conscious mind is what causes us to doubt ourselves and stops us from doing a lot of things that might be beneficial to our lives, but because there are so many questions asked by the conscious mind, it’s hard to move on and find more success in life.

But our dreams occur in the subconscious; there are no questions asked, no concerns raised, just good quality information and problem solving that would be very helpful – if only we could remember them.

The subconscious dreaming part is what I addressed in my book called “Directed Dreaming.” Your dreams can work on whatever they want, or you can make them work on a specific problem or concern. It really is up to you how your dreams can benefit you, but the most important part is to remember your dreams so you can benefit from this information.

You’ve all heard that it’s important to keep a dream journal by your bed. Yes, the old dream journal advice again! But this is the only way you can remember your dreams for the long term. Believe me; I’ve tried it the hard way. I once thought a dream was so important, and so clear that I repeated it to myself about five times before going back to sleep. Then every time I woke up I tried to remember it again.

But this really is the hard way to remember dreams, because in the morning, I still only remembered half of it, and lost a lot of sleep just trying not to lose the information I had received.

So the dream journal is definitely important. I like to use the one that comes with the lucid dreaming kit, not only because I can type much faster than I can write, but also because I can look back and see if there are any themes in the messages I’m receiving.

So maybe if I have a recurring dream about running down a track, it MIGHT be telling me that I’m on the right track in life – which is important for me to know right now. OK, so what exactly is that one little trick that will ensure you remember your dreams? It’s to lie perfectly STILL after you wake up, and make a conscious effort to remember them! Don’t do a thing but try to remember what you were just dreaming about! And lay there – still – until the entire dream has been presented to you (they’re longer than you realize). THEN, get up and write in your dream journal immediately!

Just because you can now remember dreams easily when you wake up, doesn’t mean the information will stay with you unless you write it down! Try it! I was amazed at how well this one thing helped me remember dreams.

Why Do People Follow Guru’s Like James Ray?

I was horrified the other night when I saw “Guru” James Ray on the news, seemingly un-daunted by the fact that he had just killed three people. And yes, in my opinion he did kill those people! But why they stayed in the sweat lodge after the first one passed out is beyond my comprehension. When you’re looking for self help I’m pretty sure you don’t want it to kill you!

They say James Ray liked to play “God.” But God doesn’t PUSH people to their limits to see how strong they are, yelling and screaming at them all the way. The lady who wrote the book on James Ray (Joy) said he took a group of followers to scale Machu Picchu in Peru and forced them to go at a dangerous pace. If I were a follower, I would have quit at that point.

Expert mountain climbers know that if you are doing a dangerous thing (like scaling a mountain), you need to be careful and make every step count. Not pretend you are spider man and go as fast as you can to prove something! I would say if you climbed safe and made it to the top, that qualifies as success!

The sweat lodge incident was uncalled for. Even if there were toxins in the material that the sweat lodge was made of, when the first person passed out – the lodge should have been cleared out! I suppose those people were just considered weak, and others didn’t want to leave and be considered weak. And, this is not the first time he’s done this. I just watched an exclusive ABC news report that showed similar happenings in a previous seminar like this – but fortunately no one died the first time.

Self help Gurus like James Ray – who like to pretend they are “all powerful” not only prey on weak people, but also those who really want to get more out of life and better themselves. I just don’t like self help speakers who charge enormous amounts for their seminars. Seems like basically, they’re only helping their self. . .

Sorry, I’m ranting here, but I just think this should be filed under cult activity and Mr. Guru Ray should be punished. Maybe he should be made to sit in that sweat lodge until he passes out! Oh, and don’t forget to make him sign that waiver so you don’t have to be responsible for ANYTHING that happens to you when you put yourself at the mercy of a self help guru who is so money hungry that he won’t stop a “session” even if people are passing out and dying around him!

P.S. I have done a “re-birthing” session in the past, it was a personally supervised breathing exercise and did NOT include frying my brain in a sweat lodge!
